Wicked Flyball Club… an exciting year ahead!
We are looking forward to an exciting year here at Nutriment as we are sponsoring
Wicked Flyball Club, based from Overton in Hampshire, and we will be closely following and sharing with you their exploits throughout the coming months as they take part in Flyball Competitions across the UK culminating in the British Flyball Associations Outdoor Championship in August.
So what is flyball?
It is basically a race between two teams of four dogs each, racing side-by-side over a 51-foot-long course.
Each dog must run over the jumps, trigger a Flyball box releasing a ball, retrieve the ball and then return over the jumps.
The next dog is released, in relay fashion, to run the course but can’t cross the start line until the previous dog has returned over the finish line.
The first team to have all 4 dogs finish the course without error wins.
An electronic judging system that uses lights (think Grands Prix Racing) and timing sensors are used on the start/finish line to determine accurate times, and the winner when both teams complete the course in quick succession.
If you haven’t seen this dog sport before it is fast, furious and exciting.
Who can take part?
Flyball is suitable for virtually any breed of dog, as long as he or she is fit and healthy and the guys at Wicked certainly believe that Nutriment raw food diet is one of the key building blocks in keeping their dogs healthy and ready for competition.
Different sized breeds can all take part, as all dogs compete over the same course with a concession made for smaller dogs – the jump height is lowered to the appropriate height for the smallest dog in the team.
A small, fast dog can, therefore, be a huge asset to a team as it enables the larger dogs to run over lower jumps.
So if you have a dog, and enjoy team sports and travelling with friends, then FLYBALL could be the sport for you.
Over the next few weeks we will be introducing you to the Wicked dogs, their teams and handlers as they prepare for their first competition at the end of March and indeed for the competition they will be hosting at our very own Cherished Farm on the 7th April.
