If there is one supplement you do not want your pet to miss out on it must really be Spirulina!

We include spirulina in all of our raw dog food Formulas (apart from the Just and Organic range) as this small alga is just so packed with important minerals and vitamins, whether you are thinking of boosting your dog’s immune system generally or have an ailing pet.

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a micro-algae superfood. It’s an antioxidant, high in omega-3, rich in protein, minerals and vitamins B1, B2, and B3. It’s so nutritious that NASA uses it as a protein-rich dietary supplement for astronauts on space missions; it boosts the immune system and is a powerful anti-inflammatory

A powerhouse of Vitamins & Minerals

Apart from the benefits above Spirulina is a powerhouse of essential minerals and vitamins such as vitamins B12 (linked to improved fertility) and K, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, copper, manganese, magnesium, beta-carotene, and essential fatty acid (GLA) plus chlorophyll – really what more can you ask for in a small plant?

How much to give

If you do not feed our complete formulas or the Laverstoke range, but eg the Just Range or DIY most of your pet's food a daily and safe dosage is 1/8 teaspoon per 5kg of body weight. It’s best to get powered spirulina so you can dosage correctly.

Where we source our spirulina

The Spirulina we use is grown in Mongolia on the vast expanse of the Inner Mongolian grasslands, well away from the hustle and bustle of the East Coast cities. It is found in freshwater, and the certified organic spirulina used for our powder is grown in a controlled environment and regularly filtered and tested to ensure it remains of the highest standard.

The water sourced for our Spirulina comes from 300m deep wells and after harvesting it’s washed over a fine mesh screen to preserve its purity, then it’s gently dried to preserve its nutritional benefits.

We only work with suppliers who pay their farmers fair prices and have good working conditions.
