Kibble vs Fresh: What's the difference?
-
Problem - Kibble
Ultra-processed
High cooking temperatures
Animal byproducts
Grains & fillers
Pet companies convinced you kibble was good for your dog. That feeding your best friend the same brown pellets, day in, day out, would help them stay healthy and happy. Trouble is, they also added fillers, grains, preservatives and “mystery meat.” Then cooked it at high temperatures - destroying nutrients, creating harmful chemical byproducts and reducing bioavailability. -
Solution - Fresh
100% natural
Low cooking temperatures
87% real meat
No added nasties
That’s why every Nutriment Fresh meal is cooked with real, recognisable ingredients – giving your dog complete, balanced nutrition without the additives and processing.

FAQs - Everything else you need to know about Nutriment Fresh.
Is fresh dog food safe?
Yes. Nutriment Fresh is gently cooked at 72–90°C, which is sufficient to eliminate pathogenic bacteria while preserving nutritional integrity — unlike raw food, the cooking step provides an inherent safety measure.
Nutriment's facility operates under HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) — the same food safety framework required in human food production — with full microbiological testing, supplier assurance, and traceability from raw material to finished product.
Handling requires no more care than handling any cooked meat: keep cold, thaw in the fridge, use clean bowls, wash hands after serving.
Is it a complete food or just a topper?
Nutriment Fresh is formulated as a complete meal — it contains everything your dog needs as their sole daily diet. That said, it also works brilliantly as a topper on top of dry food if you're starting to introduce fresh ingredients.
Research suggests that even a 20% proportion of fresh food in the diet can deliver measurable protective health effects — so even a partial switch is worthwhile.
Is it developed with veterinarians?
Yes. Nutriment Fresh recipes have been developed with veterinarians to ensure they are nutritionally complete and appropriate for adult dogs. Further formats are in ongoing development.
Is it suitable for dogs with allergies or sensitivities?
Nutriment Fresh is made with a small number of clearly identified whole ingredients, making it significantly easier to manage sensitivities compared to highly processed foods with long ingredient lists. The absence of artificial additives and common fillers also reduces unnecessary dietary exposure.
If your dog has a specific diagnosed allergy, check the recipe ingredients against your vet's guidance. With multiple protein sources available (chicken, beef, lamb & salmon), there's a good chance a suitable option exists.
Are there any preservatives or fillers?
No. Nutriment Fresh contains no preservatives and no fillers. The food is preserved naturally through blast-freezing and storage below -18°C — not through chemicals. That's why it needs to be kept frozen.
Why is the meat content so high?
Dogs are carnivores at heart. Nutriment Fresh is formulated with approximately 80% animal-based ingredients — muscle meat, organs, and where relevant, bone substitutes — with the remaining 20% from vegetables and fruits.
This ratio reflects how dogs are naturally designed to eat, and is what makes the food genuinely nutritious rather than just filling.
How much do I feed my dog?
Feeding quantities depend on your dog's weight, age, and activity level. As a general guide, most adult dogs require around 2–3% of their body weight per day in fresh food. Our feeding guide on each product page gives specific recommendations — or use our calculator for a personalised portion size.
If using Fresh as a topper rather than a complete meal, reduce the quantity of their existing food proportionally.
What health benefits can I expect to see?
Research into fresh and minimally processed dog food consistently points to:
• Greater gut microbiome diversity
• Improved digestion and more stable stools
• Lower inflammatory markers
• Healthier skin and coat (better omega-3 to omega-6 ratio)
• Better dental health — some studies report up to 90% less tartar vs dry food
• More stable glucose and cholesterol levels
The gentler cooking process means more nutrients survive intact compared to the degradation that occurs at the high temperatures used in kibble production.
